Lot 124 chestnut colt No Nay Never – Slippers (Zabeel) $80,000 (draft: Phoenix Park)
No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) is the sire of very exciting Te Akau trained Need I Say More, who produced a stunning victory in the Almanzor Trophy (Gr. 3, 1200m) on Karaka Millions night (23 Jan.) at Ellerslie.
Now the winner of five from seven, including four stakes wins, Need I Say More had the Jamie Richards polish on pre-race, stripping in magnificent order fresh-up from the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) in November at Riccarton, and a great physical specimen he delivered the best win of his career to date.
The colt is the first foal from an unraced mare by Champion Sire and Broodmare Sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram), a quality influence in the pedigree of any horse that cannot be underestimated – and in many instances cannot be beaten.
“There is a great line-up of stallions in this family, and he is the first foal of a young Zabeel mare,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM.
“Zabeel and Sir Tristram are such great influences in any pedigree, and he’s the same sort on type and colour as Need I Say More, who I’ve been so impressed with.
“He’s the type to be seen as an autumn two-year-old and train on to be a really nice three-year-old.
“He was good value and by a stallion we really like.”
