KARAKA – Lot 280 Savabeel (AUS) – Bewitching (NZ), Bay Colt

Lot 280 bay colt Savabeel – Bewitching (Pentire) $220,000 (draft: Landsdowne Park)

Te Akau has a phenomenal record with the progeny of the all-conquering six-time Champion Sire and Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winner Savabeel: Group One winners Probabeel (2), Embellish, Hall of Fame, Shillelagh, Cool Aza Beel, Sword of Osman, along with stakes winners and performers Savy Yong Blonk, Amarelinha, Brando, Prise De Fer, Splurge, Royal Success, and Grazia.

Progeny by Savabeel recently topped $100 million, his 2175 winners, 193 stakes winners including 37 Group One winners.

From a young mare by versatile and quality sire Pentire (Be My Guest), grand-dam Midnight Babe, a daughter of the influential quality sire Kaapstad, a son of legendary stallion Sir Tristram, was a fast multiple stakes winner that also finished second in the Queensland Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m), who in turn is from a stakes winning mare.

The family includes Karaka Million (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner Hardline and Wakefield Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) placed Xpression, both by Showcasing, and Brisbane Cup (Gr. 2, 2200m) winner Jetset Lad.

“He’s a nice tidy colt and the young mare is doing a good job at stud,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM. “Pentire is a quality sire that we feel has the makings of a really good broodmare sire.

“He’s a really good physical specimen and has quite a few talented two-year-olds in his pedigree.

“He’s correct, athletic, walked well, and overall just a good sort of horse by our Champion Sire.”
