Lot 532 bay colt Teleperion – Megara (Encosta de Lago) $80,000 (draft: Westbury Stud)
By high-class international stallion Street Cry, the sire of out and out champion Winx (37 wins and NZ$28.1 million) and Champion American racehorse Zenyatta (winner of 19 from 20), the colt is from the first crop of beautifully bred young stallion Telperion.
Telperion, listed winner and Group 1 placed 1400 metres, is a half-brother to immensely talented Randwick Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and multiple Group winner Kementari (Lonhro).
By the multiple Champion Broodmare Sire of Australia, Encosta de Lago, Megara has already left dual stakes winners Red Striker (Red Giant) and Auld Acquaintance (Rajah).
Grand-dam Make Me Strong (Danehill) was a very well bred mare that left 10 to race, including eight winners, and Te Akau has experience with the family having trained stakes placed filly Dreamer (More Than Ready).
“We have a couple in the stable by the sire (Telperion) and we really like them,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM.
“He’s a very type of colt, walked well, and a half brother to a couple of promising horses, including the above average Mega Bourbon (El Roca) who has won two of his five starts.
“We thought he was really good value, and you can’t ask for more having Encosta de Lago and Danehill as sires on the dam side.”
The filly carries a pedigree cross to Danehill (breed shaping sire of 349 stakes winners), who puts strength and substance into his stock almost unmatched by any other sire, on the dam sides of both Telperion and Megara.
