Lot 12 ch. F. Proisir – La Pucelle (Tale of the Cat) $17,500 (draft: Park Hill Stables)
At the corresponding sale last year, David Ellis bought chestnut Proisir filly Harlow who staged a last to first debut effort in winning the 2YO 1200 metres, sponsored by Te Akau Racing – Three Times Karaka Million Winner, in February at Te Rapa. Athletic enough to race at two, although more of a three-year-old type, Harlow spelled following a solid fifth in the prestigious Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m).
Proisir has sired some promising first crop juvenile winners and his progeny could really step up as three-year-olds next season. Proisir is by Australian Champion Two-Year-Old and history making racehorse Choisir (Danehill Dance). Winner of the Lightning Stakes (Gr. 1, 1000m) at Flemington, Choisir beat the best sprinters in the world when winning the King’s Stand Stakes (Gr. 2, 1000m) and Golden Jubilee Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Royal Ascot in the U.K., before becoming highly successful at stud.
Like Harlow this filly carries a Northern Dancer cross, and also quality speed sire Biscay (Star Kingdom).
Her dam, La Pucelle, was a winner over 1200 metres and her sire, Tale of the Cat (Storm Cat), was the sire of brilliant Te Akau trained 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Tell A Tale. It is a quality family on the dam side, with second dam Rebellious Angel by Success Express, the dam sire of Savabeel, also Champion Sprinter / Miler Coogee Walk and tremendous staying horse Mr Tipsy (Montjeu).
“This filly reminded us a lot of Harlow as a physical type, said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “She’s from a good Windsor Park family with plenty of stakes performers. She too was very good value.”
