Lot 186 br c Mongolian Khan – Mabsam (Stratum) $140,000 (draft: Windsor Park)
A colt from the first crop of Champion Three-Year-Old and subsequent dual Horse of the Year and Champion Stayer Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor), recording Group One wins in the NZ Derby, ATC Derby, and Caulfield Cup.
Dam Mabsam was a debut winner over 1000 metres that won to a mile, by a Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winning son of Redoute’s Choice, and her two progeny to race have both won. The colt carries a Danehill cross through Mongolian Khan as the sire of Holy Roman Emperor and via Stratum as the sire of Redoute’s Choice.
“He was one of our top picks of the Mongolian Khan’s at the sale,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “He’s a beautiful horse, out of a mare that’s already left a good performer in Jasd who went up to Hong Kong. And we bought a really nice I Am Invincible filly out of this mare last year.”
“He’s a horse that’s got enough speed on his mother’s side to prepare as an autumn two-year-old and train on to be a Guineas sort of horse.”
“We’ve very pleased to have bought some first crop progeny by Mongolian Khan at really good value prices, because he was a colt not only with great bloodlines but also proved himself winning the toughest races in Australia.”
