Lot 649 br c Savabeel – Cool ‘n’ Sassy (Testa Rossa) $150,000 (draft: Fairdale Stud)
A colt by Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old Savabeel (Zabeel), a four-time Champion sire, that proved himself to be one of the most versatile stallions in Australasia. His record speaks for itself.
The first foal from three time winner to 1200 metres in Australia, Cool ‘n’ Sassy, he is line bred to immortal sire Northern Dancer and blue blood producing mare Special, the dam of 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner and champion sire Nureyev.
The sire of Cool ‘n’ Sassy, Testa Rossa, was a Group One winner aged two, three, and four before becoming a multiple Group One producing sire and now a consistent broodmare sire.
“The dam was very speedy, we love buying first foals, and he’s from a good Australian family,” said David Ellis.
“The family has plenty of two-year-old form and he has the makings of a horse that can get up and get going as a two-year-old.”
“He’s the sort we will look to prepare to trial early next season and aim at races like the Karaka Million.”
“He reminded us a lot of Aotea Lad, who won a stakes race on debut in December and ran a top race for second in the Karaka Million. He’s a precocious and very forward moving son of Savabeel.”
