Lot 664 b c Tavistock – Danalaga (Danehill) $115,000 (draft: Curraghmore Stud)
Tavistock (Montjeu), a noted sire of (four) Derby winners, including Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther, he has added terrific quality to the New Zealand stallion ranks, producing robust and hardy horses with tough qualities and a real turn of foot – required to win the races that his progeny has.
Global stud influence Danehill, the greatest sire of all time with a record 349 stakes winners is the sire of dam Danalaga, a winner of three races from 1400m – 2600m that in turn made her mark as the dam of four individual winners of 11 races including New Zealand Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner More Than Sacred (More Than Ready) who also won the Sunline Vase (Gr. 3, 2100m) and Waikato Gold Cup (Gr. 3, 2400m).
“Danalaga was a stakes performer that placed in the Oaks and already left an Oaks winner, and a couple of handy gallopers,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“He’s a straightforward good type, walks well, and I think he was really good buying.”
“His pedigree suggests he will need a bit of time, but the sort that could race as an autumn two-year-old before training on as an ideal Derby horse as a three-year-old. He should continue developing with maturity to become a Cups horse at four and older.”
Ellis added that the colt was a good deep colour and naturally athletic.
The colt is inbred to immortal sire Northern Dancer through both sire lines.
