Lot 1404 b or br c So You Think – Lady Primrose (More Than Ready) A$165,000 (Baramul Stud)
Built much in mould of his 10-time Group One winning sire So You Think (High Chaparral), from a mare by international stallion More Than Ready (Southern Halo), this strapping colt carries a bloodline cross of immortal sire Northern Dancer.
Incredibly, world renowned dam sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) has sired horses to win 3,617 races, including 244 stakes wins and 50 Group Ones, and already proving an exceptional Australian broodmare sire. He has been a Champion Sire in both hemispheres, proved to be an outstanding sire of sires, and going from strength-to-strength as a broodmare sire.
Our colt’s dam Lady Primrose has already left Hard Lady (All Too Hard), a dual winner to 1300 metres in Australia, while grand-dam Primrose Sands, by champion sire and broodmare sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram), was a stakes’ winner and Group Three placed over 2000 metres – winning nine times from 1200m to 2000m – and left three winners of eight races.
Coolmore Stud stallion So You Think has produced horses to win over 1000 races, including 59 stakes wins, and seven Group Ones. He has sired Derby, Oaks, and Guineas’ winners, shown terrific versatility at distances, dominated by milers, and proved himself at the most competitive levels in Australia.
So You Think (High Chaparral) was purchased as a yearling by Bart Cummings at the 2008 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, and went on to win 14 races and $8.8 million in prize money before retiring to stud in Australia.
He set the world alight when winning the 2009 Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) as a three-year-old, as did Savabeel (Zabeel), and returned to win it again in 2010. He transferred to Aidan O’Brien in Europe, extending his Group One winning record to ten, defeating 75 Group One winners in the process, and retired to stud as the highest rated son of the English Derby winner and noted Derby sire High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells).
“He’s a nice athletic horse, with a lovely head and eye and plenty of presence,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“A later foal, he has been given time before coming to this sale. He moves well and has the pedigree to be real Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas and Group 1 NZ Derby type of horse.
“We would like to aim him toward racing as an autumn two-year-old and he shapes to be at home in middle distance races as a three-year-old.
“He’s all quality, this colt, from head to toe, and buying him early in the sale we felt he was good value at the price.”
