Lot 1631 b f Vancouver – Win the Lottery (Encosta de Lago) (Baramul Stud)
After purchasing a So You Think colt (Lot 1404) from Baramul Stud, Te Akau principal David Ellis went back to the well and bought their Vancouver filly.
“She’s a really sharp looking filly,” Ellis said. “She’s medium-sized, walks well, really athletic, and looks like a filly that would come a bit sooner.”
By impressive Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winning colt Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro), the powerfully built filly is from a mare by champion broodmare sire Encosta de Lago, who currently leads the Australian Broodmare Sires’ List in all facets: winners, wins, and earnings.
Four-time winning grand-dam Sweepstaking, who placed at Group Two and Listed level, is by Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice), another stallion high up in the Australian Leading Sires’ List. A sire with progeny winning 20 Group One races among 151 stakes wins and over 2000 in total, Not A Single Doubt is also working his way up the broodmare sire list in Australia.
Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) is inbred to immortal sire Northern Dancer, and the filly carries bloodline crosses to both Northern Dancer and Danehill (Danzig).
“We’re pleased to have secured her,” Ellis said. “She’s by young a stallion son of great sire Medaglia d’Oro, that’s really starting to do the job now.
“Vancouver was a very impressive Golden Slipper winner and what a great record that Golden Slipper winning stallions do have at stud.
“Given her pedigree, she’s great value at the price and could be a Matamata Breeders’ Stakes type filly before going on at three.”
