MAGIC MILLIONS – Lot 109 Fastnet Rock (AUS) – Blue Blue Sky (AUS), Bay Filly

Lot 109 bay filly Fastnet Rock – Blue Blue Sky (Lonhro) $600,000 (draft: Coolmore Stud)

Te Akau has experienced great success with the progeny of Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill) – who commanded stud fees up to $275,000 – through the deeds of Group 1 winners Avantage (5), stallions Rock ‘n’ Pop and Heroic Valour, and Age of Fire.

The sire of over 3500 winners, including 323 stakes winners, 57 Group 1, Fastnet Rock has made himself an international force in breeding and racing.

The filly stems from a fabulous New Zealand family, starting with dam-sire Lonhro (Octagonal – Zabeel – Sir Tristram). Lonhro (Octagonal) was Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Miler, Australian Horse of the Year, and simply an outstanding Australian racehorse that won 11 Group 1 races.

Third top Australian Broodmare Sire in 2019-20, behind Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) and Encosta De Lago (Fairy King), Lonhro mares have left nearly 50 stakes winners.

Grand-dam Napa Sky (Stravinsky) is a half-sister to impressive Group winning mare La Sizeranne (Stravinsky), while another sister, Sara Ann, has left ATC Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner Tavago (Tavistock), and blood-sister Estelle Collection (Stravinsky) is the dam of five-time winning sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice).

The filly carries a Zabeel (Sir Tristram) cross on her dam-side, with third dam Tricia Ann (Zabeel) a three-quarter sister to Champion Sire Grosvenor (Sir Tristram). It is a tremendously versatile family that has left some high-quality racehorses and a dam-sire line responsible for generations of top performers in Australasia.

Te Akau principal David Ellis said: “She’s a stunning filly and the dam is a young mare from a good family. Lonhro, Stravinsky, and Zabeel: a great line-up of stallions on the page.

“She is a half-sister to promising two-year-old Mr Blue Sky (Zoustar), and she reminded us of some the better Fastnet Rock’s that we’ve had. She is medium-sized, powerful, plenty of quality, and moves really well.”

This filly is part of a three-filly partnership – together with Lots 109 (Fastnet Rock filly) and 159 (I Am Invincible filly)Note: purchase price is in Australian dollars
