Lot 423 bay filly Fastnet Rock – Joy of Joys (More Than Ready) $600,000 (draft: Strawberry Hill Stud)
Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM said: “She’s a beautiful Fastnet Rock filly, out of Joy of Joys, and one of the best female families in the studbook.
“We thought this filly was an absolute ripper, very much in the mould of Avantage, and we were thrilled to secure her.
“There is a lot of Fastnet about her, very strong and immense quality. Obviously, it’s a lovely pedigree, lovely line-up of sires, and we were determined to buy her.”
Te Akau has experienced great success with the progeny of Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill) – who commanded stud fees up to $275,000 – through the deeds of Group 1 winners Avantage (5), stallions Rock ‘n’ Pop and Heroic Valour, and Age of Fire.
The sire of over 3500 winners, including 323 stakes winners, 57 Group 1, Fastnet Rock has made himself an international force in breeding and racing.
Incredibly, world renowned dam sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) has sired 3,525 winners including 239 stakes winners and 45 Group 1 winners, and already proving an exceptional Australian broodmare sire. He has been a Champion Sire in both hemispheres, proved to an outstanding sire of sires, and going from strength-to-strength as a broodmare sire.
The dam side of the pedigree is full to Group 1 winners and Award winning racehorses. Grand-dam Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence) won the Australian Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m), and left eight-time Group 1 winner and Champion Middle Distance Horse in Australia More Joyous (More Than Ready), while third dam Joie Denise (Danehill) won the Queensland Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m) and left four-time Group 1 winner Tuesday Joy (Carnegie), as well as Sunday Joy.
“She’s a bit neater, has plenty of natural strength, walks really well, and the sort of filly we think can be racing as a two-year-old,” Ellis said.
“She’s come off a good farm, bred by John Singleton, and just a beautiful high-quality filly.”
This filly is part of a three-filly partnership – together with Lots 109 (Fastnet Rock filly) and 159 (I Am Invincible filly) – Note: purchase price is in Australian dollars
