NZB READY TO RUN – Lot 50 Deep Field – Bella Francesca, Bay Colt

$140,000

Description

Lot 50 bay colt Deep Field – Bella Francesca (Master of Design) $140,000 (draft: Kiltannon Stables)

He is an athletic colt from first-class stallion line, out of mare by Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill).

Leading Second Season Sire Deep Field was a highly regarded Group 2 winner over 1200 metres and Group 1 placed over 1000 metres in Australia, winning five of eight starts, by ill-fated emerging stallion and Champion First Season Sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago), who since proved a huge loss to Australian stallion ranks.

Standing for $88,000, his yearlings sold up to $800,000 last year in Australia.

Deep Field is a brother to Caulfield Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Shooting to Win, their dam Listen Here (Elusive Quality) subsequently sold for nearly $4 million, while Northern Meteor is also the sire of Zoustar, Champion First, Second, & Third Season Sire.

Currently sixth for wins this season on Australian Sires’ List, Deep Field is sire of Oakleigh Plate (Gr. 1, 1100m) winner Portland Sky and already sired over 20 stakes winners, including Roman Consul Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and Pago Pago Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) winner Cosmic Force.

The colt is first foal from Bella Francesa, out of Palatine Hill (Palace Music), therefore half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Palentino (Teofilo).

Dam sire Master of Design (Redoute’s Choice) won seven of 17 starts, including T J Smith Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m), and since sired Thorndon Mile (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner The Mitigator, among over 300 winners.

“We really like him,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “A nice athletic colt by a sire that’s doing a good job at stud, out of a young mare that is a sister to a dual group one winner.

“We expect he will come into his own next year as a three-year-old. He walks well, good attitude, and we were happy with the way he breezed up. Not rushed early, but once up and running he looked really good in his action and attacked the line.”
