Lot 296 br c Burgundy – Miss Daphne (Diamond Express) $95,000 (draft: Archer Park)
After coming on the market early in the auction, spirited and competitive bidding ended with the strong looking colt being sold for $95,000.
By five-time stakes winner Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice), a three-quarter brother to Champion Sire Darci Brahma (Danehill), both bought by David Ellis, whose first three two-year-old to race were all race winners.
“He’s a lovely colt and really has so much of Burgundy in his make up,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis. “Burgundy was the fastest horse that Te Akau has ever trained. He made an immediate impact as a sire and certainly a loss to the breeding industry that he was lost at such a young age.
“But, his progeny are continuing to do a great job. They love racing, we’ve bred and bought some beautiful horses by him and this colt is another that we’re really looking forward to racing.”
From a terrific family, that of history making 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Katie Lee (Pins), his dam, Miss Daphne, has already left three individual winners of 10 races, including the talented and genuine race mare Rockoneve (Road to Rock).
The colt carries a pedigree cross of breed shaper and legendary stallion Sir Tristram.
