SWORD OF STARS

Beautifully bred Sword of Stars quickly lived up to her looks and breeding when claiming Group 3 honours at only her sixth career start.  It's a success story with a true Te Akau flavour - she's from the first crop of Te Akau purchased and trained sire Sword of State, who won the Group 1 Sistema Stakes as a juvenile, before being crowned Champion 2YO of his season.

Her dam Angelica Hall was entrusted to Te Akau to train by her breeders Windsor Park Stud and she was a mare of immense quality and ability.

Sword of Stars raced three times as a two year old, finishing second twice - she was considered talented enough to contest the Group 2 Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year's Day 2026, finishing sixth behind stablemate Kinnaird.

Given time to continue to mature and grow, she flagged her intentions early in the 2026/27 season by delivered a stellar effort for third (short neck/short neck) in the $80,000 NZB Canterbury Belle Stakes 3YOF SW 1200m on 12 September 2026, won by stablemate Sweetest Thing.

Heading to Timaru in early October 2026, and ridden by leading jockey Michael McNab, despite doing a few things wrong, she rallied well to clear Maiden status.

Later that month, she lined against both sexes in the $100,000 Group 3 War Decree Stakes 3YO SW 1400m, and produced a thoroughly professional performance piloted by former stable apprentice Wiremu Pinn. It was a convincing one length win by a filly on the rise.

Sword of Stars is raced by the Te Akau Stately Hall Racing Partnership (Mgr: lady Karyn Ellis MNZM) and was purchased by Sir David Ellis at the Karaka Yearling Sale Book 1.  She has raced six times for two wins and three placings, winning $102,800 to date.
