Te Akau Coup

Purchased by David Ellis from the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale for $150,000, Te Akau Coup was trained by Mark Walker and raced by Ray Coupland.  The daughter of Thorn Park/Beyond the Sunset, making her a half sister to Listed Wellesley Stakes' winner Don Garcia was bred by Peter Vela ONZM and Philip Vela of Pencarrow Stud and raced twice as a 2YO in the 2007/08 season.  She won on debut on 11 January 2008 and then, at just her second start, won the prestigious $125,000 Group 2 Robin, Duke of Bedford Matamata Breeders' Stakes for 2YO fillies. Her win provided her sire Thorn Park with his first stakes' winner.  Te Akau Coup earned almost $90,000 in prize money.
