Matamata Tuesday Trackwork

Dragon Leap confirmed that his New Zealand Derby campaign is back on track when he galloped stylishly at Matamata on Tuesday.

Working on the plough, Dragon Leap (Yanagida) was paired with Shezathinka (T Harris) over ground, with the last 1200m in 1:19.3, 1000m in 1:03.5 and finishing off with 600m in 36.3. On top of clear blood tests, the hitout satisfied connections that Dragon Leap has shaken off any ill effects from the temperature spike that forced his withdrawal from the Waikato Guineas.

He will now run in Saturday’s Avondale Guineas, while Shezathinka will also head to Ellerslie with the Rating 72 1600 on her agenda.

Avondale Cup candidates Paisley Park and Masetto also got through pleasing work ahead of the weekend. On the plough Paisley Park (McNab) went with Stilton (Wratten) over ground, timed from the 1200m in 1:19.9, 1:04.2 and 36.4. Masetto (Lammas) worked 12m out on the dead course proper, where he put his usual gusto into his hitout over 1200m in 1:13.5 and 1000m in 1:00.8. Fog prevented any further sectional times.

Also on the course proper, Short Fuse (Wratten) prepared for the open sprint at Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:08.5, hitting the line hard but with no final 600m possible. Rosa Fiore (Singh) and Incantesimo (Wratten) were paired in sound work over 1200m in 1:18.8, 1:04.4 and 37.3.

On the big sand, Ellerslie entries Amarula (P McKay) and Iron Eagle (S McKay) left 1000m behind in 1:05.6, finishing off with 600m in 37. Supera (Winter) looked bright after her Tauranga trial win when she strolled over 1000m in 1:15.2 and 43.6.

Back on the plough Red Chois (Grylls) and Woodcote Lass (Turner) prepare for Ellerslie with a slick 1000m 1:01.6 and 35.5. Ellerslie open sprint rivals Sheezallmine (Miller) and Sword Of Osman (Bosson) also caught the eye over 1000m in 1:04.3 and 36.8.

Avondale Guineas pair Communique (Grylls) and Karalino (Turner) worked over ground and were timed from the 1200m in 1:20.1, 1:03.5 and 36.4. Ellerslie entry Lavaglo (Miller) went with You’re Welcome (Bosson) over the same ground in 1:21.5, 1:05 and 36.6.

Others to work over ground included Master Painton (Turner), who recorded 1:22 and 38.2 for 1200m, Lady De Vere (J Collett) and Son Of Sasanof (R Jones) 1:23.6 and 40.4, Rocking Along (Lammas) and La Favorita (Dellow) 1:27.6 and 39.8, and Hosel Rocket (Lammas) 1:29.2, 41.2.

Travelling Kate (Grylls) and Vino Bella (Roustoby) were paired in a smart 1000m in 1:03.2 and 35.8. Probabeel (Bosson) went with Aromatic (A Jones) over an easy 1000m in 1:11.3 and 37.4. She is in excellent order ahead of her Sydney campaign.

Savy Yong Blonk (Kamaruddin) was not after time in her work over 1000m in 1:12.4 and 42.8. Levante (Winter), who runs next at the local meeting on Saturday week, was well held over 1000m in 1:16.3 and 43.8, while likely Matamata Breeders’ Stakes runners Escudo (Yanagida) and Perfectionist (Yoto) were also allowed striding work over 1000m.
