NZB Ready To Run Sale 2024
Lot 13 b. g. Savabeel – Jolie Blonde (Testa Rossa) $330,000 (draft: Westbury Stud) Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM struck early in the sale when buying a son by eight time Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel), who caught the eye when showing good athleticism through the line in his breeze up in October at Te Rapa. Te Akau has had previous success with progeny out of daughters by Testa Rossa (Perugino), a Group One winner at aged two, three, and four, especially Champion Two-Year-Old Cool Aza Beel (Savabeel), who now stands at stud in Australia, and already sired exciting two-year-old filly Cool Aza Rene, trained by Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson. The stable has also trained stakes winner Kai (Ocean Park), out of a Testa Rossa mare. Stakes winning dam Jolie Blonde was a regular group performer that won four races over 1200 metres, including the Hareeba Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Mornington. The class on the dam line comes in the shape of third dam Isolda, by breed shaping stallion Sir Tristram, winner of the Champagne Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) at Randwick, Joint second top 2YO filly in Australia, and a tremendous producer of nine individual winners from 11 foals including Group Three winner Bid Spotter (Redoute’s Choice). He has a lovely cross of Sir Tristram through his sire line and dam line, and a Danzig cross in the pedigree of Jolie Blonde. “He’s a classic son of Savabeel, breezed up well, and Mark Walker was particularly taken with his physique and everything about him,” Ellis said. “We love the pedigree of Savabeel over a Testa Rossa mare, have had success with it previously at the highest level, and we think he has the makings of a really nice three-year-old type.”
