Te Akau principal David Ellis has selected, bought, and Te Akau has trained more Group One winning and Group winning progeny of eight-time NZ Champion Sire Savabeel (Zabeel) than anyone else. 

The list includes Group One winners now at stud: Embellish, Cool Aza Beel, and Noverre, and other Group One winners: Probabeel (4), a dual NZ Horse of the Year, Prise De Fer, Amarelinha (NZB Filly of the Year), Hall Of Fame, Sword Of Osman, Skew Wiff, The Perfect Pink, and a host of other stakes winners by this remarkable sire.

While Snitzel rounds out the trilogy of Champion Sires in Australia, through his sire Redoute’s Choice, and forefather Danehill, Savabeel has done the same in NZ, through Zabeel and Sir Tristram. 

On the dam side, all direct descending mares have won and largely been producers of stakes performing progeny, with fourth dam Deck The Halls (Father Christmas) Third Top Filly in the Australian Classifications. 

"She’s a filly that reminded us a lot of Damask Rose," Ellis said. 

Damask Rose finished second in the Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) after winning on debut, and recently resumed with an impressive victory in preparation for the $1.4m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (Restricted Listed, 1600m). 

"She’s a filly with lovely big ears, from a Danehill dam sire line mare who has done a great job already as a broodmare. 

"She has a great hindquarter and plenty of quality, which is what we’ve always looked for when buying progeny by the Champion Sire Savabeel. 

"She has plenty of substance and has athleticism about her." 

The filly carries a bloodline cross of immortal sire Northern Dancer, and a Sir Tristram cross on the sire line of Savabeel and dam line of dam sire Duelled.
