2024 Gold Coast National Yearling Sale
Lot 1353 chestnut filly Written Tycoon – Lijiang (More Than Ready) $140,000 (draft: Yulong Stud)
Nine-time Champion Victorian Sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia) remains one of the most sought after stallions in Australia, and rightly so as he continues to produce high quality young thoroughbreds.
He topped the Australian General Sires’ List in 2021, from an initial service fee of $8,250 to now command a private fee.
Leading First Season Sire and Champion Two-Year-Old Sire Written Tycoon is currently third leading sire for both wins and winners in Australia, with over 132 stakes wins including 15 individual Group One winners in total.
Written Tycoon is having another stellar season with his two-year-olds, including Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Lady Of Camelot, and Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Velocious, while Te Akau juvenile Captured By Love has registered two Group Two wins, a Group Three, and twice Group One placed.
Dam Lijiang is a half-sister to Group Two winner Brazuca (Teofilo) and stakes winner Mr Utopia (Elusive Quality), while the line-up of sires on the dam side: More Than Ready (Southern Halo), Choisir (Danehill Dancer), and Rory’s Jester (Crown Jester), are among the finest to ever stand in Australia.
More Than Ready (Southern Halo), alone, is a world renowned sire with over 2000 winners.
“There is an enormous amount of speed in her pedigree and that is backed up by her physical appearance: short-coupled, well developed muscularly, and a very racy look to her,” said Te Akau principal David Ellis.
“She is a rich chestnut in colour, like Captured By Love, whom we bought as a yearling on the Gold Coast, and there is plenty of two-year-old winners in the family.
“We rated her as one of the better two-year-old fillies in the sale, with plenty of leg, and the type we expect could develop into a Christmas two-year-old and train on up to a mile as a three-year-old.
“There is scope of distance in the family as well, with horses in there that have raced over 2000 metres, so we feel she should be very adaptable with the pedigree that she’s got.
“She is an outstanding individual and one that we had more for in our budget.”
The filly carries a straightforward bloodline cross of immortal stallion Northern Dancer, through the sire-lines of both Written Tycoon and More Than Ready.
