Lot 1388 Zoustar - No Evidence Needed Bay/Brown Colt

2024 Gold Coast National Yearling Sale

Description

Lot 1388 bay or brown colt Zoustar – No Evidence Needed (Shamardal) $400,000 (draft: Baramul Stud)

The colt is a half-brother to stable-mate Move To Strike (I Am Invincible), whom Te Akau principal David Ellis purchased as a yearling in 2023 at the Gold Coast, also from Baramul Stud.

Move To Strike vindicated the impressiveness of his five length debut victory last December at Te Rapa, when brilliantly winning the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) in April at Trentham.

While Move To Strike is by Champion Sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), the sire of recently retired stable star Imperatriz, the colt loses nothing in the way of stallion credentials being by Zoustar (Northern Meteor).

Currently leading the Australian General Sires’ List for winners this season, after finishing fifth last year and seventh in 2021, Zoustar was Leading First Season Sire in 2017-18, Leading Aust. Sire of 3YOs in 2018-19, the Champion Sire in Singapore in 2019 & 2020, and continues to affirm as one of the best sires in Australasia.

Zoustar has sired eight individual Group One winners of 12 Group Ones, among 54 individual stakes winners of 108 stakes races.

Dam No Evidence Needed won six races – including four successively – from 1200m – 1600m, including the Let’s Elope Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) at Flemington, Southern Cross Stakes (Gr. 3, 1200m) at Rosehill, and twice Group One placed: one of those in the Schwepps Oaks (Gr. 1, 2000m) at Morphettville.

She was regarded as a game big filly that possessed a good turn of foot, and to date left six individual winners of 15 races, including Group One winner Move To Strike and Group Two placed Discharged (Snitzel).

Dam sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway), once third in the TRC Global World Sire Rankings, has left 46 Group One winners worldwide, and now establishing himself as a broodmare sire of the highest calibre.

Shamardal is also the dam sire of Imperatriz, mentioned above.

A brilliant eight-length winner on debut, Shamardal won four Group One races from 1400m – 2100m and won six of his seven starts before retiring to stud. He has a fantastic pedigree, with a Mr. Prospector influence of speed and versatility, and proved himself as a sire of both juvenile and classic excellence.

The second dam Generosa is by Epsom Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m) winner Generous, who added plenty of impetus when standing in New Zealand, while the third dam is by legendary sire Danehill.

“He’s one of best colts we’ve seen this year,” Ellis said.

“Obviously, being a half-brother to Move To Strike, we were particularly interested in him, and even more so because Zoustar progeny continue to really impress and the progeny of the dam, No Evidence Needed, are quickly adding more and more wins.

“He’s the spitting image of Move To Strike and the mare, as mentioned, is doing an excellent job at stud.

“No Evidence Needed has already left three two-year-old winners, including Move To Strike, who we think will improve again as a three-year-old. So it’s a very exciting family.

“He’s got plenty of size and strength, a beautiful nature, and you can really see him developing into a Christmas two-year-old and hopefully getting to the Group One classics.

“Being by Zoustar, we expect him to be a highly precocious and readymade two-year-old.”

The colt carries bloodline crosses to two of the most influential stallions of all-time: Mr Prospector, and Danehill.
