Lot 14 grey colt Snitzel – Aalaalune (Reliable Man) - draft: Musk Creek Farm
THIS COLT WILL RACE FROM OUR CRANBOURNE STABLE IN VICTORIA: The colt is by four-time Champion Sire in Australia, and four-time Champion Two-Year-Old Snitzel(Redoute’s Choice), one of three in the trilogy of breed shaping champion stallions in Australia, along with Danehill (Danzig), and Redoute’s Choice (Danehill), and stands at Arrowfield Stud for $247,500+ GST.
Snitzel is also a sire of sires, led by Group One winners Russian Revolution, Shamus Award, Trapeze Artist, and Sword Of State, the latter purchased as a yearling by David Ellis to become Champion Two-Year-Old and now setting things alight with sales of his first crop yearlings at Magic Millions and Karaka.
Sword Of State (Snitzel), whose first offerings sold for $380,000, $375,000 & $340,000, earlier in January at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales on the Gold Coast, had a top price of $540,000 at Karaka.
Te Akau recently recorded a trifecta with Snitzel colts purchased last year by Ellis, when unbeaten Return To Conquer secured his third stakes win on end in the Matamata Slipper (Gr. 3, 1200m) on 15 February, defeating debut winner He Who Dares, and dual winner To Bravery Born.
The colt is the first foal out of multiple stakes placed winner Aalaalune, an athletic and rangy grey filly that had plenty of natural ability.
Very competitive as a two-year-old, Aalaalune finished runner-up to Te Akau trained Champion Two-Year-Old Yourdeel (Dundeel) in the Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m), fourth to him, again, in the Sires’Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m), and third in the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m).
Grand-dam Veva Girl, by reigning Champion Australian Broodmare Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), left four individual winners of 19 races, including Soliloquy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) winner De La Terre, a sister to Aalaalune by Reliable Man, who defeated subsequent Te Akau trained 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Kahma Lass (Darci Brahma).
“We saw a lot of Aalaalune racing against some of the best horses we had in the stable at the time, so realized the talent she had, and she’s produced a beautiful first foal,” Ellis said.
“He’s a great bodied colt, balanced, very fluid in his movement, and has terrific conformation.
“He’s got plenty of depth in his family, with the third dam Barawin racing against the very best in Australia, winning two stakes’ races and being placed at Group One, Two, and Three, levels.
“The sire of Barawin, Barathea was a Champion Miler, high quality sire, and a son of Sadler’s Wells.
“We could see this colt having the precocity to race as a two-year-old and the scope to train on to race in the Classics, at a mile and possibly more, as a three-year-old.”
