Lot 209 brown filly I Am Invincible – Talaria (O’Reilly) - draft: Sledmere Stud
TO RACE FROM OUR AUSTRALIAN STABLE:
By the Champion Sire in Australia, out of a mare by the Champion Broodmare Sire in New Zealand, the filly is from the outstanding Alberton family, that has really hit the headlines of late through the deeds of Te Akau trained filly Damask Rose (Savabeel).
A beautifully correct filly, Damask Rose was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $200,000, from the draft of Milan Park, at the 2023 Karaka Book 1 Sale, and IS owned by Te Akau Coming Up Roses Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).
After proving too classy in the $1.5 mILLION TAB Karaka Millions 3YO, Damask Rose, representing the Te Akau-owned Slot, achieved an incredible feat when coming from last to win the inaugural running of the $3.5 million NZB Kiwi.
Her four wins from seven starts have realised $2.2 million in prize money.
Te Akau also trained the greatest horse by I Am Invincible, Imperatriz, whom Ellis purchased in 2020 at the Gold Coast, and she won 10 Group 1 races.
The Longines Highest Rated Mare and Best Sprinter in the World last season, Imperatriz was also crowned Australian Champion Sprinter, Champion Sprinter/Miler in New Zealand, and New Zealand Horse of the Year.
Retired and sold in June last year for A$6.6 million, becoming the highest priced filly or mare ever sold in the Southern Hemisphere, Imperatriz recorded 10 Group One wins, from 1000m – 1600m, among 19 victories from 27 starts, and nearly NZ$7.6 million in prize money.
Continuing a family tradition of producing quality thoroughbreds, her dam Talaria (O’Reilly) impressed when winning a stakes' race on debut over 1200 metres, and unfortunately had her racing career cut short by injury.
Talaria is a sister to Group 1 Doncaster Mile winning three-year-old and sire Brutal (O’Reilly), who left two stakes’ winners among his first crop two-year-olds.
Their dam, Alberton Princess (Golan), was an impressive winner on two occasions over 1400 metres and, including Brutal, left five individual winners of 13 races.
The family is notable for producing a very good line of genuine racehorses, that have quickening powers, the likes of impressive four-time winner Alberton Star (Stylish Century), who left seven individual winners of 21 races, and the fast-finishing Group Two winner Sir Alberton (Red Tempo).
Commenting on the filly, Ellis said: “She’s a lovely looking filly, all quality, and has great rein and length to her that suggests she will train on to be stunning as a three and four-year-old.
“Also, the family have the natural ability to perform as two-year-olds.
“It’s a family that we continue to have an incredible amount of success with, and a colonial (New Zealand) bred family that we first bought from in 2008 at Karaka.
“That filly, Te Akau Rose (Thorn Park), Mark Walker trained to win the Group 2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes.”
Te Akau Rose went on to produce five individual winners of 14 races.
The filly carries a simple and well-balanced cross to immortal sire Northern Dancer, through her sire lines.
