Description

Lot 227 chestnut filly Capitalist – Flashing Speed (War Path) - draft: Widden Stud

TO RACE FROM OUR CRANBOURNE STABLE IN AUSTRALIA - the filly is by 2016 Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist (Written Tycoon), who recorded three of his four wins as a two-year-old to become Champion Two-Year-Old in Australia.

Capitalist a son of Champion Sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia), whose extraordinary feats as a stallion include now being an outstanding sire of sires.

Capitalist leads four-time Champion Sire Snitzel (Danehill) at the same stage of their careers in stakes winners and two-year-old stakes winners – which is some achievement. Like himself, Capitalist is renowned for leaving good quality sprinters.

Her dam Flashing Speed, a dual winner from only four starts to 1250 metres, is a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and American Champion Thoroughbred, War Pass (Cherokee Run), who unfortunately died as a five-year-old stallion.

Flashing Speed is a half-sister to Thunder Fantasy (Lucky Owners), winner of the Autumn Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) at Caulfield, before winning the Hong Kong Classic (Gr. 1, 1800m).

They are both out of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) mare Pink Pier, with the record-setting stallion now having sired over 100 individual Group One winners.

The family goes back to smart filly Bliss Street (Flying Spur), winner of the Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) and 1000 Guineas Prelude (Gr. 3, 1400m).

“She’s a strong filly, especially through the shoulder and girth, and really oozes power in the way she walks,” said David Ellis.

“She’s a very alert, bright sort of filly, by a speed sire, and she certainly looks like a filly ready to get up and run early.

“She’s off a great farm at Widden Stud; they don’t come any better than the people at Widden and they prepare their horses beautifully.”

The filly carries a bloodline cross to Mr. Prospector, one of the most influential sires in modern day thoroughbred pedigrees at present.
