Description

Lot 261 b. g. Shocking – Alagant Angel (Tavistock) $140,000 (draft: Riverrock Farm)

Looking good at a gallop when breezing up in October at Te Rapa, the gelding has been purchased in conjunction with OTI Racing & Bloodstock, established by CEO Terry Henderson, who has recorded over 145 wins at Group & Listed level and had more than 100 wins last year worldwide.

Among their best representatives has been New Zealand bred galloper and dual Group One winner I’m Thunderstruck, also by Shocking (Street Cry).

Te Akau experienced success with progeny of Shocking (Street Cry) when Shocking Luck won the Rough Habit Plate (Gr. 3, 2000m) at Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, and more recently Self Obsession who tied New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year with stable-mate Belle En Rouge (Burgundy).

Shocking was an outstanding racehorse, winning both the Australian Cup (Gr. 1, 2000m) and Melbourne Cup (Gr. 1, 3200m), and continued the trend as a successful sire.

Sire of 25 stakes winners, Shocking has left winner of 15 races Camino Rocoso and Defibrillate who won 12 races, of which five were stakes races including the Zabeel Classic (Gr. 1, 2050m), and New Zealand Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m) winner El Vencedor.

Dam sire Tavistock, dual Group One winner and noted sire of (six) international Derby winners, added terrific quality to New Zealand stallion ranks, producing robust and hardy horses with tough qualities, an ability to accelerate (quicken) at the business end, a trait for which he was heralded as a racehorse.

The horse is also from the family of Te Akau trained Wild Night, who won five in a row as a three-year-old, including the Sarten Memorial (Gr. 2, 1400m) and Uncle Remus Stakes (Listed, 1400m), resumed with consecutive wins this season and now stabled in the Te Akau stables at Cranbourne.

“He breezed up well, a nice horse that walks well, and has a lovely staying type pedigree,” said David Ellis.

“We’ve bought and trained quite a few good horses from this family and Wild Night would be among the best of them.”

Pricing of shares includes sale expenses, pedigree analysis and research at cost, and full veterinary and x-ray examinations. Insurance additional.
