Lot 3 bay colt Acrobat – Iff Elle (Iffraaj) - draft: Curraghmore
By Coolmore Stud first season sire Acrobat, by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill), the colt is from the family of triple Group One winner Gingernuts (Iffraaj).
The dam of the colt, Iff Elle, is a sister to Gingernuts, by international sire sensation Iffraaj (Zafonic), who created such a great impression in New Zealand.
Purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM, Gingernuts achieved cult status on his journey to becoming a triple Group One winner, with victories in the New Zealand Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m), Randwick Guineas (Gr. 1, 2000m), and Windsor Park Plate (Gr. 1, 1600m).
Acrobat was a debut stakes winner over 1000 metres at Randwick, stopping the clock at 56.0, the fastest time for the distance by a two-year-old on the course. Acrobat has a terrific NZ-bred dam line.
His dam, Hips Don’t Lie, won five times from 1000m – 1200m, including the Vision Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) as a two-year-old. Hips Don’t Lie is by high quality broodmare sire Stravinsky (Nureyev), in turn out of a mare by Champion Sire Centaine, Procure.
“We have obviously had success with this family and Gingernuts was a such a special horse to so many people, and we’re always keen on inspecting progeny from his family,” Ellis said.
“The colt is by a beautifully bred young sire and we’ve been impressed by progeny we’ve seen by him.
“Acrobat has added real precocity to this colt. He has plenty of muscle, a beautiful shoulder and looks as though he will go early and continue to improve as a three and four-year-old.
“Gingernuts showed plenty of early ability to win as a two-year-old, before training on to win three Group One races, so it just shows what the family is capable of producing.
“Having Iffraaj as his dam sire is a great asset in any pedigree and he has also proved himself internationally as a sire of sires and broodmare sire, including as the sire of a Karaka Million winner.”
The colt has a simple bloodline cross of immortal sire Northern Dancer.
