Description

Lot 539 bay colt Tivaci – Cornflower Blue (Savabeel) $60,000 (draft: Waikato Stud)

The colt is from a mare well known to Te Akau, having trained Cornflower Blue for Waikato Stud to win the Barneswood Farm Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m), third in the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), third in the Wellington Guineas (Gr. 2, 1400m), and third in the Mufhasa Stakes (Listed, 1300m).

She finished third in the 2021 1000 Guineas, won by stable-mate Kahma Lass (Darci Brahma).

When winning on debut over 1200 metres, Cornflower Blue proved a class above her rivals to score by over six lengths. Cornflower Blue is from the terrific family of 2015 New Zealand Broodmare of the Year and breeding phenomenon, Parfore (Gold Brose).

Her progeny of 10 individual winners have won an unbelievable total of 84 races (35 at stakes level), including Group One winners Super Easy (Darci Brahma), Terravista (Captain Rio), Tiger Tees (Dubawi), Group Two winner Ball of Muscle (Dubawi), and stakes winner Our Lukas (Generous).

By world-class racehorse and hugely successful sire of sires High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells), Tivaci is out a mare by Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill).

Winner of the All-Aged Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) at Randwick, Tivaci commenced stud duties in 2017 at Waikato Stud, and sired ATC Flight Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Never Been Kissed, Te Akau trained dual Group Two winner Wolverine and Canterbury Belle Stakes (Listed, 1200m) winner One Kiss, along with recent Wellington Guineas (Gr. 3, 1600m) winner Tuxedo, who since finished second in the Karaka Millions 3YO (Restricted Listed, 1600m).

“We had first-hand experience having trained Cornflower Blue, and the Parfore family has left an incredible amount of Group winners and winners,” said David Ellis.

“He’s a beautifully put together colt: well balanced, good bodied, and just a lovely example of what the family can produce.

“He looks to have the natural strength to race as a two-year-old, while the pedigree suggests he will only continue to get better as he matures."

The colt carries a cross of breed shaping sire Sir Tristram, on the dam line of Tivaci and sire line of Cornflower Blue.
