MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST YEARLING SALES
Lot 563 bay filly Home Affairs – Kings Iris (Exceed And Excel) $170,000 (draft: Coolmore Stud)
The filly is from the family of Te Akau trained New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice), who was incredibly dominant in her three-year-old year, winning the Ray Coupland Stakes (Listed, 1400m), 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), Eulogy Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m), Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m), and Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m).
The filly is by an I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) sire son. I Am Invincible is the sire of Imperatriz, whom David Ellis purchased in 2020 at the Gold Coast. The winner of 10 Group One races, the most for her sire, Imperatriz is the reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year and Champion Sprinter in Australia. Retired and sold in June last year for $6.6 million, she became the highest priced filly or mare ever sold in the Southern Hemisphere. Home Affairs is a first-season stallion by Champion Sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), standing at Coolmore Stud, who prepared the filly for sale.
Home Affairs won the Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr. 2, 1100m) as a two-year-old at Rosehill, and became Champion 3YO Colt in Australia, after winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Black Caviar Lightning (Gr. 1, 1000m), both at Flemington.
Adding to his stallion credentials, the dam of Home Affairs, Miss Interiors (Flying Spur), is a half-sister to Group One winner and the Leading First Crop Sire for 2021/22 in Australia, Russian Revolution (Snitzel), as well as Group Three winner Turbo Miss (Sebring).
Dam Kings Iris, by Champion Sire Exceed and Excel (Danehill), is a half-sister to King’s Rose.
Exceed and Excel retired from stud duties in 2024, as one of the greatest stallions to ever stand in Australia.
A revered international shuttle stallion for Darley, Exceed and Excel is one of only seven stallions to sire in excess of 200 stakes winners.
A sire of sires and a leading broodmare sire, Exceed and Excel has always been regarded as a highly reliable source of speed. Grand-dam Nureyev’s Girl is by Champion Sire Nureyev (Northern Dancer), a racehorse with immense turn of foot, Champion French 3YO, and sire of more than 20 champions.
“She’s a filly we were obviously very interested in, being from the family King’s Rose, and she actually has a similar blaze on her forehead,” said David Ellis.
“We think Home Affairs has all the makings of a good sire, and there is plenty of quality among the performances and the depth of pedigree on the dam side.
“She’s a filly with plenty of size and scope to train on, but also has the natural strength and precocity to run as a two-year-old.
The filly has a bloodline cross of Nureyev through her dam lines, and legendary sire Danehill (Danzig) on the dam line of Home Affairs and sire line of Kings Iris.
