Description

Lot 67 bay or brown filly Rebel Dane – La Passe (Street Sense) - draft: Carlaw Park)

Young sire Rebel Dane is from the Danehill line, as a son of California Dane.

From his second crop, Rebel Dane has already produced Fireburn to win the Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Inglis Sires’ (Gr. 1, 1400m), becoming the first filly to achieve the double since 1996.

Rebel Dane was a Group One performer of the highest level, competing in 25 Group One races, winning Manikato Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and Sir Rupert Clark Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m), while showing consistency to place second to fifth 11 times.

Dam La Passe recorded six wins from 1100m – 1400m, including dual Group Two victories in the Tristarc Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) and Blazer Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m).

La Passe is by Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, in turn by high-class international stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian), a Dubai World Cup winner, who famously sired the greatest of all time, Winx (37 wins, 25 Group One, and NZ$28.1 million).

Street Cry (Machiavellian) is also the sire of Champion US mare Zenyatta, and Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, who stands at stud in New Zealand.

La Passe has left two to race for two winners, with four wins between them. “She’s a strong two-year-old style of filly, a great type, with a lovely pedigree,” said David Ellis.

“The sire, Rebel Dane, has done a great job with small books of mares and he’s already upgraded some lower grade mares by producing some good quality racehorses out of them.

“She’s a very strong bodied filly, typical of the Danehill line, and she comes from a really progressive farm at Carlaw Park.” The filly carries a Danehill cross on the sire line of Rebel Dane and dam line of La Passe.
