The Mitigator and Cavallo Veloce prepared for Ruakaka on Saturday with a rousing gallop at Matamata on Tuesday morning. Working on the No. 1 sand, The Mitigator (P McKay) and Cavallo Veloce (S McKay) were well matched over 1000m in a smart 1:01.2, keeping up a solid gallop for a final 600m in 35.8. The Peter McKay-trained pair are coming to hand well and wouldn't surprise with bold fresh-up performances on the weekend.

Veine d'Or (C Grylls) prepared for Ruakaka with a comfortable 1000m in
1:05.2 and 37.3, while stablemate Henry Hudson (S Collett) was well held over
the same distance in 1:07.6 and 39.

Another to catch the eye on the big sand was Watch This Space, who cut
out 1000m for trainer Wayne Hillis in 1:03.2 and 36.8. Man of the Woods
(Winter) left 1000m behind in 1:10.6 and 40.2.

On the course proper, which was heavy 28m out, Waverley Friday entries
Woodcote Lass (Ravi) and Glen Frey (C Grylls) had first use of the track when
they worked over 1000m in 1:06.6 and 39.8. Glen Frey is a recent trial winner
for trainers Stephen Autridge and Kris Shailer, while his talented stablemate
Woodcote Lass has also had a lead-up trial.

Livvy Lass (Lammas) looked an improver for Ruakaka when running 1000m in
1:10.2 and 41. Last-start winner Iffraajinator (Tynan), another heading north,
was paired with Harvey Darvey (R Cole) over 1200m in 1:24.3, with the last
1000m in 1:08.6 and 600m in 40.8.

A number of Te Akau stable members who are likely to be entered for both Waverley and Ruakaka put in some good work. Promising maidens Vincere (Bosson) and Shezawinkle (T Harris) went together over a soundly run 1000m in 1:08 and 39.6, while Mazzuro (Bosson) and Shebringsmerubies (Kamaruddin) ran the same trip in 1:09.8 and 40.1, and Lilikoi (T Harris) and Remington (Roustoby) took 1:11.5 and 39.8.

Alley Cat (S McKay) and Rukuhia (Fawcett) went well together over 1000m
in 1:09.5 and 40.6.

On the No. 2 sand, Cutting Edge (S Collett) made the early running before
being joined by Iron Eagle (S McKay) towards the final stages of 1000m in
1:04.9 and 37.2.

Limentis (Cox) wasn't extended over 1000m in 1:07.8 and 39.2, Viva
L'Rippa (Clements) and a Contributer filly (Lammas) took 1:10.8 and 41, React
(Newman) 1:11.3 and 41.8, and Johnny Redmond (Newman) 1:11 and 41.8.

Mr Gibson (Miller) was kept to three-quarter-pace over 1200m in 1:30.3 and
44.8, while Dragon Queen (Lammas) and Tokorangi (Reid) strode in from the 800m
in 1:02.6 and 45.2.
