Te Akau Cambridge Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Wednesday 3 August at Cambridge (synthetic).

Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true. No rain forecast.

2:54 p.m. R6 5 Supreme Khan (5 g Mongolian Khan - Angelica Hall) - Opie Bosson; ended his previous campaign coming from last for second (fastest last 600m: 35.1) in the Rating 74 1400 metres on 7 May at Te Rapa, and was not pressured when working home widest in a trial here on 19 July. Twice a winner in a fresh state, he is likely to get back from his wide draw (12) in the $30,000 Rating 75 1300 metres but could get home strongly as a top three chance. Fixed odds: $8.00 & $2.50.

4:04 p.m. R8 8 Bubbles Await (3 g Almanzor - Champagne Katie) - Joe Kamaruddin (a1); was unpressured running on well for third at the trials on 3 March at Avondale, and kept finding to win after co-leading on the bridle when trialling here on 19 July. By Champion First Season Sire, his dam Champagne Katie (Darci Brahma) won twice to 1400 metres and was stakes' performed. He shapes to race well on debut with the right trip from barrier eight in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres - one of two debutants in the race for Te Akau. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.

4:04 p.m. R8 10 Stonybreck (3 g Tavistock - Fair Isle) - Niranjan Parmar (a3); sustained a strong gallop to win after situating outside the leader in a trial here on 19 July, and he too debuts in the $14,000 Maiden 970 metres. His dam Fair Isle (Fastnet Rock) won over 1600 metres in Australia, he's from a classy family, was good through the trials' stage, and is aided by weight relief to 53kg plus an ideal draw (2). Fixed odds: $11.00 & $3.50.
