Te Akau Friday Update

We are now in the final stages of breaking the yearlings in.  We are currently completing 2 fillies that we bought on the Gold Coast.  A beautiful Flying Spur filly that could well be 1000 Guineas filly and a Snitzel filly that we bought for Rex and William Fell. Both these fillies will  go into the Matamata stable next week. That only leaves a Saperavi gelding and a Savabeel colt,  both of which are heading to Singapore. Our team have broken in a total of 61 horses and that is a credit to Davey, James Jackson and the team.

Yesterday a group of us were at Cambridge Stud to see Burgundy.  Also joining this group was our youngest daughter Julia Rose, Jason Bridgman and our accountant Gilbert Southworth.  Sir Patrick spent an hour with us showing the team around Cambridge Stud and everybody was very impressed.

We are very busy this week at Te Akau Stud.  We have this year turned three sheep and cattle paddocks into three horse paddocks.  This involved discing, harrowing, and levelling the paddocks then regrassing them.  There was an old woolshed and shearers' quarters which we have taken away and demolished and now we have to re fence this area - all very expensive but the three horse paddocks will be very handy.

The grass growth has really slowed up this week and the autumn saved pasture is slowly coming to an end but we are still comfortable for feed.

This weekend we have two special guests coming to stay with Karyn and me.  Hong Kong trainer Paul O'Sullivan and Stuart Laing - when Paul was in New Zealand he and his dad Dave set all the records in New Zealand and Australia, they were a fantastic training team. It will certainly be a big Saturday night.
