Te Akau Matamata Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eight-race programme on Wednesday September 24 at Matamata.

As on Tuesday September 23 the conditions were: fine and Heavy10, rail out 10 metres.

2.38 p.m. R4 8 Virtuous (3 f Encosta De Lago - Virtus) - Matt Cameron; ran solidly for sixth on debut after making a wide from the 700 metres on Aug. 31 in the Maiden 3YO 1000 metres on Slow7 footing at Te Aroha, and now steps up in distance for the Maiden 1400 metres. There is some expectation of her copping the ground and therefore looks an each way chance in this field.

4.23 p.m. R7 7 Highly Likely (4 g High Chaparral - Starrinka) - Lee Magorrian (a3); got the job done in good fashion, with this rider aboard, when winning the Benchmark 65 1600 metres here a month ago on Slow7 footing. At his previous start, 70 days prior, he won over 2200 metres at Te Aroha. He faces a stiffer task in the Rating 75 2000 metres with four of his six rivals having raced in 85 grade recently, but is advantaged carrying 53kgs and possesses plenty of determination.
