Te Akau Monday Update

David writes:

It was another winning weekend for Te Akau Racing, with Mark Walker adding another two race victories in Singapore. He is now five in front on the Trainers' Premiership which is a fantastic effort.

The first winner gave us a big thrill, as Broadway Success was bought by me at the Ready to Run Sale - Karyn and I never get tired of winning with horses that we have bought at the sales.

BROADWAY SUCCESS

We bought this horse to specifically race in Singapore, so this has been a very satisfactory result for our owners.

We will be buying further horses at the Ready to Run sale in three months' time to race in Singapore. If you are interested in racing for the lucrative prize money that is on offer in Singapore, get in touch with Karyn - [email protected]

We have plenty of time before the Ready to Run Sale, and we will be looking at the horses very closely before we finalise our short-list. This sale has been very successful for Te Akau with, for example, Group 1 horses Te Akau Shark, Gingernuts and Hall of Fame all being purchased by me from this sale.

DUAL GROUP 1 TRANS-TASMAN WINNER TE AKAU SHARK

3 X TRANS TASMAN GROUP 1 WINNER GINGERNUTS

GROUP 1 WINNER HALL OF FAME

With regards to racing on Saturday, I thought it was a great effort from Allan Sharrock winning six races. I also want to congratulate his apprentice, Hazel Schofer, for also winning six races on the day. What an unbelievable achievement - well done!

I am really excited this week with racing at Taupo on Wednesday.

Te Akau is sponsoring a race there to acknowledge the wonderful job that the club has done. The course proper, that we have been using for gallops, is in fantastic condition - there has been a considerable amount work completed on it to bring it up to this high-quality standard.

TE AKAU HAS A GREAT TAUPO STRIKE RATE

So we wish the Club all the very best for its important meeting.

It is just so exciting when these better tracks become available and the better horses start racing.

We have some of our best horses who are trialling before the first race and it is terrific to have our stable jockey Opie Bosson back riding.

For the month of August, Opie would be the fittest that I have ever seen him, and it is now just the question of losing the last two kilos to be able to ride most of the team. From personal experience I know how hard it is to lose those last couple of kilos!

This morning I went around the farm and inspected all the horses that are spelling, and it is quite incredible on what a great winter that we have had so far. It seems that 16 to 17 degree days are the norm and the grass is ready to take off.

We are now less than three weeks away from Spring and the days are becoming noticeably longer. Lambing has been a huge success, and our lambs are just absolutely thriving.

Best of luck to all our owners at Taupo and with horses racing this week and ...
