Te Akau NZ Avondale Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the eight-race programme on Wednesday May 22 at Avondale.

As at 6:58am on Tuesday May 21 the conditions were: cloudy and Slow9, rail out 9 metres.

3:40pm R7 4 Darci's Gold (4 m Darci's Gold - Golden Dawn) - Matt Cameron; showed pace from a wide gate to settle one off in fourth and challenged hard for a close third on May 1 in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres on Slow7 footing at Pukekohe. Resuming here prior, she proved too good after racing near the lead in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres on Dead5. Drawn barrier six in the corresponding event, she has blinkers on and boasts the right course/distance form to rate a top chance - one of two in the race for Te Akau.

3:40pm R7 14 Cold Snap (4 m Pins - Forty Two Below) - Rory Hutchings; got back from a wide gate and although quickening in the run home was unable to threaten in a race dominated by the first two throughout, on May 3 in the Benchmark 75 1200 metres on Dead4 footing at Hastings. With ability to compete at this level, she comes in on nice weight, has blinkers on, and can make her presence felt with a decent trip from barrier nine.
