Te Akau NZ Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Saturday 18 May: Te Rapa, and Awapuni.

Te Rapa:

As on Friday 17 May the conditions were: overcast and Dead6, rail out 6 metres. No rain forecast.

11.45 a.m. R1 4 Al Haram (6 g Sea the Stars - En Public) - Craig Grylls; was nosed out in a driving three way finish to the Waipukurau Cup (Rating 72 2200 metres), before struggling on Heavy10 at Rotorua, and finished strongly to just miss winning (½ a head) here in the Rating 82 2200 metres on 4 May. Down three kilos to carry 54kgs in the $35,000 Open 2100 metres, he brings the form to rate a top three chance. Fixed odds: $3.30 & $1.30.

1.28 p.m. R4 5 Pinultimate (3 f Pins - Lost In Dubai)
- Troy Harris; made
it three wins from four starts with an impressive victory in the 3YO 1200
metres on 8 May at Matamata, and contests the $25,000 3YO 1200 metres. She
resumed with a notable effort for fifth here when meeting a smart field in the
3YO 1200 metres in April, and despite an awkward draw (11) she has the game to
rate a top three chance. Fixed odds: $4.60 & $1.85.

Awapuni:

As on Friday 17 May the conditions were: fine and Slow9, rail out 5 metres. 2mls rain forecast Saturday afternoon.

1.07 p.m. R3 1 Conclusion (5 g Fully Fledged - Every Reason) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); bagged
a win and second during his spring campaign at Riccarton, and looked
good getting home for fifth when trialling with Kamaruddin aboard on 26 April
at Te Teko. A winner on slow and heavy, weight relief to 55kgs should result in
a solid first-up effort in the $25,000 Rating 72 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $7.50
& $2.60.

2.49 p.m. R6 15 Bojangles (5 g Roc de Cambes - Stever House) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); indicated his readiness when finishing fourth at the trials on 19 March at Matamata, and filled the same position with a solid finish given Heavy10 footing in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 22 April at Rotorua. He won the Rating 65 1400 metres when resuming here last season on Anzac Day, clocking the fastest last 600m of the day (35.7) on Slow8 footing, and requires one defection in order for a chance to repeat in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres.
