Te Akau Wanganui Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has two horses entered for the nine-race programme on Saturday Sept. 6 at Wanganui.

As on Friday Sept. 5 the conditions were: showery and Dead6, rail true.

12.47 p.m. R2 8 Merrily (4 m O'Reilly - Mchappy) - Opie Bosson; resuming off 84-days in the Rating 65 1200 metres, she ended a winning campaign with a nice second over 1200 metres (1:10.5) at Ruakaka. At her previous start, on May 22, she raced away to score by nearly five lengths over 1400 metres at Hastings. Further back than third in only one of her six starts, she is sure to be strongly supported from barrier five.

1.22 p.m. R3 11 Rapid Gain (5 g Flying Spur Occasional Gain) - Opie Bosson; worked home nicely for third in a trial over 1040 metres on Aug. 5 at Te Teko, and resumes off 98-days in the Rating 75 1340 metres. At his most recent start, here on May 31, the Slow9 footing was not to his liking and two wins from three attempts on good footing underlines his preference. He faces stiff competition from the likes of Cosmic Cube, Batman, Overtheriver, Designated Driver, plus Thorn Pass and Far Fetched if they come off the ballot. Being an early race should assist his prospects from barrier five and proving competitive in this line up would be good form going forward.
