Purchased by David Ellis from the Gold Coast Sale in 2007 for $125,000, the son of Tale of the Cat and Sir Tristram mare Cheeky Veronika is trained by Mark Walker. He was fourth in the $50,000 Listed Fairview Ford Slipper as a 2YO, then as a 3YO he went on to win the $100,000 Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas in the north in 2008 and in the south, the $55,000 Listed Canterbury Stakes in October and the $1 million Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas in November both at Riccarton. He also claimed the $100,000 Group 2 Avondale Guineas in fine style. Tell A Tale was second in the $200,000 Group 1 Whakanui Stud International Stakes at Te Rapa in February 2009 and third in the $2.2 million Group 1 Telecom Derby in March 2009. In his next campaign he finished second in the $250,000 Group 2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile in November 2009, was third in the $200,000 Group 1 Zabeel Classic on 26 December 2009, fourth in the $200,000 Group 1 Thorndon Mile in January 2010, second in the $200,000 Group 1 Darci Brahma International Stakes in February 2010, fourth in the $50,000 Listed Stanley Group TRAC Stakes also in February 2010 and third in the $200,000 Group 1 Sky City NZ Stakes in March 2010. Raced by the Fortuna Syndicate (No 5), managed by John Galvin, Tell a Tale relocated to Singapore in August 2010 where he ran second in the group 1 Singapore Gold Cup. Upon his retirement in 2012, he returned to New Zealand and resides at Te Akau Stud. He raced 35 times for six wins and 17 placings for stakes of $1,432,940.
