Lot 1200 bay filly Cool Aza Beel – Irene (Xtravagant) $55,000 (draft: Newhaven Park) 

A direct descendant of Champion 2YO Filly in Australia, Hasna, the filly has a tight association with Te Akau, being from the first crop of Champion Two-Year-Old, Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Cool Aza Beel, and first foal out of a mare by dual Group One winner Xtravagant (Pentire). 

Cool Aza Beel and Xtravagant were purchased by David Ellis as yearlings at Karaka, both exciting and proven racehorses, and each now standing at Newhaven Park (NSW). Third dam Hasna (Snippets) won two legs of the Triple Crown: Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) and Champagne Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m), among seven victories from 1000m to 1600m. Grand-dam Hades is by Champion Sire and Champion Broodmare Sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King) and produced five individual winners of 17 races, including Group Three placed dual winner Mintha (Redoute’s Choice). 

“She is a really well structured filly with plenty of substance and we saw a lot of both Cool Aza Beel and Xtravagant in her makeup,” Ellis said. “Cool Aza Beel was a readymade two-year-old that became Champion Two-Year-Old and it’s very exciting to purchase one of his first progeny for sale. “The Kelly family at Newhaven Park are doing a great job with both stallions and they’ve been very impressed with the first progeny of Cool Aza Beel, saying, “His progeny are the best line of yearlings by any stallion they’ve stood at Newhaven Park”. 

“Xtravagant, too, is making a real impact. His oldest progeny are only five-year-olds; he’s already had five individual stakes winners among 75 individual winners and a very good ratio of winners to starters.” The filly carries a cross of unparalleled New Zealand sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram) on the sire line of Cool Aza Beel and dam line of dam sire Xtravagant.
