2024 Gold Coast Yearling Sale
Lot 493 brown filly Snitzel – Bright Path (Lord Kanaloa) $150,000 (draft: Arrowfield Stud)
By the four-time Champion Sire in Australia, Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), who serves so well the trilogy of Danehill – Redoute’s Choice – Snitzel, which is unrivalled in great Australian thoroughbreds. Snitzel was the Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds four times and also been leading Australian Sire of earnings worldwide. Snitzel is the sire of Champion Two-Year-Old and now Cambridge Stud sire Sword Of State, whom David Ellis purchased as a yearling at the 2020 Gold Coast Yearling Sale. “She’s an exciting first foal out of a good Japanese family,” Ellis said. “Japanese breeding and racing is absolutely world-class, and not easy to acquire their bloodlines.
“She’s a beautifully proportioned filly, neat, and oozes speed as an athletic two-year-old type. “Plus, she’s by Snitzel, and incredible sire of two-year-olds – the best – and he provides all the quality she needs on the pedigree page.” The filly has plenty of quality in her bloodlines, possessing a cross of Storm Bird (Northern Dancer), European Champion 3YO, sire of the great Storm Cat who at his peak stood for $500,000 service fee. Dam Bright Path was very consistent during her racing career, with two wins over 1400 metres and placed a further eight times in 22 starts.
She has a strong pedigree, with her sire Lord Kanaloa having a cross of breed shaper Mr. Prospector. A world-class sprinter, Lord Kanaloa (Timeform 133 rating) is the sire of nine-time Group One winner Almond Eye and Hong Kong Sprint (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Danon Smash. Said to be a ‘ball of muscle’, Lord Kanaloa is a high priced stallion in Japan, 16.1hh, and has beautiful conformation. His dam Lady Blossom (Storm Cat) is a descendant of Somethingroyal, the dam famous Triple Crown winner Secretariat (USA). Interestingly, the racing career of Lord Kanaloa has been compared with that of fellow Group One winning sprinter and Champion Sire Snitzel – the sire of the filly.
