Lot 90 bay colt Royal Meeting – Alana’s Party (Exceed and Excel) - draft: Newhaven Park
The colt is from a family that Te Akau knows well and has already experienced success - and his half sister is an absolute beauty! She's gone huge races as a two year old!
Bought at the Melbourne Sale, this smashing colt will be educated in Victoria and head straight to our Cranbourne stable!
Te Akau principal David Ellis CNZM purchased his half-sister, Bellatrix Star (2 f Star Witness – Alana’s Party), as a yearling last year at Karaka, and she had an outstanding first season of racing.
Winning the first race of the new season for two-year-olds at Wanganui, which former stable-mate Cool Aza Beel (Savabeel) won in 2019 before winning the Karaka Millions 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) and Sistema Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) and becoming Champion Two-Year-Old, Bellatrix Star went on to win the Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m) and finish fourth in the Karaka Millions 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m).
Bellatrix Star required to be tough and show full stretch when winning on debut and drew on those traits again finishing second to subsequent Karaka Millions 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner Velocious (Written Tycoon) in the Counties Challenge Stakes (Listed, 1100m) and winning the Eclipse Stakes (Gr. 2, 1200m).
Like Bellatrix Star, the colt carries a bloodline cross to Danzig, on the sire-lines of both Royal Meeting and Alana’s Party.
With his oldest progeny now two-year-olds, Royal Meeting (Invincible Spirit) – a Group One winning two-year-old in France and by the sire of reigning Champion Sire I Am Invincible – has made an exciting start to his stallion career through the deeds of Hayasugi, who topped Group Two & Three wins with a huge finish to win the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr. 1, 1200m) at Caulfield.
Dam Alana’s Party is by Australian Champion Sire and leading broodmare sire Exceed and Excel (Danehill), who made a name for himself over two decades of world racing and breeding – just an extraordinary sire whose winners have numbered over 6000 and nearly 400 stakes wins.
Grand-dam The Party Stand, by Stradbroke (Gr. 1, 1400m) winner Thorn Park (Spinning World), was an impressive winner from 1200m – 2000m, at her best around middle distances and included the N.Z. Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m).
“Like Bellatrix Star, the colt is a very strong and athletic young horse and we’re excited being able to buy him,” Ellis said.
“We’ve been so impressed by Bellatrix Star, given her professionalism right from the outset, winning the first two-year-old race of the season, and coming back off a freshen-up to win the Eclipse Stakes and race so determinedly and well against the best two-year-olds.
“He’s a really natural and muscular two-year-old type of colt, not overdone in the preparation by a farm that does a fantastic job, and very nicely put together.”
