Description

Lot 257 bay filly Savabeel – Summer School (Street Cry) (draft: Waikato Stud)

David Ellis has an incredible buying record of progeny by Savabeel (Zabeel), the eight-time Champion Sire in New Zealand, with over 30 individual Group One winners. Dual Horse of the Year Probabeel heads the list, a winner of four Group Ones in Australia. He provided a rare double when Te Akau trained Noverre (Savabeel) to win the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1,1600m) and The Perfect Pink (Savabeel) won the 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) in 2021, while Savabeel success stories for the stable include other Group One winners Amarelinha, Hall of Fame, Savy Yong Blonk, Sword of Osman, Shillelagh, Cool Aza Beel, Embellish, Prise De Fer, I Wish I Win, and Skew Wiff, as well as group winners: Splurge, Gold Fever, Aotea Lad, Synchronize, Brando, and Fashion Shoot, while his sire sons include Embellish, Cool Aza Beel, and Noverre. Out of a mare by international stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian), a Dubai World Cup winner, who famously sired the greatest of all time, Winx – 25 Group One wins.

Interestingly, Summer School only raced once, winning by 10 lengths over 2460 metres at Wolverhampton, UK. Summer School has two foals to race, both winners, including Emancipation Stakes (Gr. 2, 1500m) winner Promise Of Success (Dansili), winner of five races, and Summerbeel (Savabeel) the winner of four races to 2040 metres. Promise Of Success also sold as a yearling at the Gold Coast, fetching $1.3m.

“She has a quality pedigree and the physical presence to match it,” said David Ells. “She’s bred to be a classic filly, getting up in distance as she matures. “She presented in fantastic order by Waikato Stud, as we’ve come to expect, and she really is great value at the price especially given her residual value as a commercial breeding proposition.” Grand-dam Measured Tempo (Sadler’s Wells) is a three-quarter sister to World Champion Sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), the greatest sire of stakes winners in thoroughbred history.

“It’s an incredible international family and when you have Street Cry, Sadler’s Wells, and Riverman as the dam sires you can’t wish for any better than that,” Ellis added. The filly carries a cross of immortal sire Northern Dancer, through the dam line of grand-sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram) and dam line of Summer School.
