A filly by Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) winning three-year-old Savabeel, Champion NZ Sire eight times, she is another example of the “magic” Savabeel/O’Reilly cross that has produced 12 individual Group One winners.

One of the most notable is Amarelinha, whom Ellis purchased as a yearling at Karaka, and became New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year after winning the NZ Oaks (Gr. 1, 2400m), David & Karyn Ellis Classic (Gr. 2, 2000m), and Sunline Vase (Gr. 3, 2100m).

Along with other Savabeel/O’Reilly Group One winners he purchased as a yearlings at Karaka: 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner now stallion Embellish, and 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner The Perfect Pink.

Savabeel is represented by over 900 individual winners, including 137 stakes winners which surpassed his grand-sire Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor) while closing in on his sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram).

The filly is a half-sister to two winners and from the family of Champion Three-Year-Old, four-time Group One winner, and successful stallion Alamosa (O’Reilly).

“We were very surprised to buy a Savabeel filly from this family for such good value,” said David Ellis.

“She’s a slightly later (7 Nov.) foal, but has everything in the right place and we’ve bought from this family before.

“There have been some very good fillies from this family, going back to Eloa (Volksraad) and the Group One Oaks winner Lights Of Heaven, and of course it’s the family of a very good stallion in Alamosa.”
