Lot 332 bay colt Snitzel – Vaujany (Lonhro) (draft: Blue Gum Farm)

By the four-time Champion Sire in Australia, Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), who serves so well the trilogy of Danehill – Redoute’s Choice – Snitzel, which is unrivalled in great Australian thoroughbreds. Snitzel was the Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds four times and also been leading Australian Sire of earnings worldwide. Snitzel is the sire of Champion Two-Year-Old and now Cambridge Stud sire Sword Of State, whom David Ellis purchased as a yearling at the 2020 Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Dam sire Lonhro (Octagonal) was Champion Three-Year-Old, Champion Miler, Horse of the Year, and simply an outstanding Australian racehorse that won 11 Group Ones. His progeny are highly sought after, sire of over 180 stakes winners including 18 Group Ones. ‘

The Black Flash’ Lonhro is a sire of sires and leading broodmare sire. Dam Vaujany although unraced is a three-quarter sister to six time Australian sprint winner Andermatt (Snitzel), who stakes placed on three occasions, while grand-dam Portillo, by sensationally fast juvenile Red Ransom (Roberto), won the Surround Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m) and finished runner-up in the Flight Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) as a three-year-old filly, while winning three times to 1400 metres, and left five individual winners of 12 races. “In our opinion he was the best Snitzel colt in the sale,” said David Ellis. 

“He’s perfectly balanced, has a lovely action, beautiful bodied animal, and like his sire looks like a real superstar. He’s the spitting image of Snitzel. “His professionalism for a young colt is outstanding, he’s very alert and we could not fault him in any way.” 

His comments were backed up by Bluegum Farm owner Sean Dingwall, when saying: “The colt is a great walking horse with a lovely head and overall presence about him. “He has shown himself off perfectly at the sales grounds and in the auction ring and we’re thrilled, with all their success, that Te Akau was able to secure him after some very spirited bidding.” The colt has a Danzig (Northern Dancer) cross on the sire line of Snitzel and dam line of Vaujany.
