Description

Lot 81 brown filly Shamus Award – Fille Champagne (Sebring) $75,000 (draft: Westbury Stud)

FIRST TIME OWNERS MUST COMPRISE UP TO 50% OF HER OWNERSHIP so she is eligible for the $200,000 Karaka Millions' New Owners' Bonus in 2025.  Existing owners can only purchase up to a maximum of 50% - written confirmation from the Te Akau team will be sent to ensure the 50% new owner threshold is satisfied.

Incredibly, Shamus Award (Snitzel) won the 2013 Cox Plate (Gr. 1, 2040m) as a Maiden before franking the form winning the Australian Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) and being named Champion Three-Year-Old of the Year. Son of multiple Champion Sire Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice), Shamus Award has been very successful at stud, siring 225 winners of over 750 races, 24 individual stakes winners (including 11 Group One wins).

Shamus Award is the sire of current star filly in the Te Akau stable Quintessa, who right from the outset displayed incredible determination and tenacity, winning four of her six starts, most recently in the Levin Classic (Gr. 1, 1600m) at Trentham.

“Shamus Award is doing a great job at stud and this is a really nice type of filly,” said David Ellis.

“She carries herself beautifully, has terrific balance and just glides when she walks.

“She is very much in the mould of Shamus Award, and it’s hard to beat the line up of sires in her dam line: Sebring, Anabaa, Last Tycoon (the sire of O’Reilly), and Champion Australian speed sire Vain.”

Dam Fille Champagne, by Golden Slipper (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Sebring (More Than Ready), won three races to 1400 metres in Australia, and already left dual sprint winner Champagne Torque (Capitalist).

“Sebring has been a high quality sire influence in Australia, and having a very bright future as a broodmare sire,” Ellis said.

“We really did pick her up at a good value price and we’re thrilled to be taking her home.”
