Description

Lot 435 bay colt Circus Maximus – Star Of Bombay (Atlante) $60,000 Windsor Park Stud

By the greatest sire of stakes winners in the world, Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), Circus Maximus was a Champion Miler and triple Group One winner that won the St James Palace Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m), a noted stallion-making race, and like Champion racehorse Frankel (Galileo) before him, won the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) also at Royal Ascot.

Star Of Bombay was purchased by David Ellis at Karaka.

By 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Atlante (Fastnet Rock), a successful stallion before having his stud career accidentally cut short, Star Of Bombay impressed winning early in her career, registering two wins from her first three starts before finishing third in the Auckland Guineas (Gr. 3, 1400m).

She won the Mufhasa Stakes (Listed, 1300m) on Derby Day at Ellerslie, and ended her career with a very good fourth to Levante (Proisir) in the Westbury Classic (Gr. 2, 1400m).

With four victories, she was never further back than fourth in 11th starts – displaying a mixture of talent and tenacity.

“She was a really good filly, Star Of Bombay, and we’re thrilled to be able to buy her first foal,” Ellis said.

“She impressed us when we bought her as a really athletic filly, with a lovely walk, and it’s not very often you see a three-year-old filly come out and win a Maiden race by four lengths like she did.

“She showed then that she was stakes quality and lived up to that with a good stakes win and proved herself up to the best.

“We’ve been taken with the amount of substance and strength that Circus Maximus is putting into his progeny and we’re only too pleased to be buying the first offerings of such a well credentialed racehorse and sire.

“He really is a cracking colt, we knew the mare to be well above average and we’ll be looking for the same from this colt who really was good value buying.”

The colt also has a terrific line-up of stallions on his dam side, with the grand-dam being by World Champion Miler Starcraft (Soviet Star), the dam sire of recent Group One winner for the stable, Skew Wiff (Savabeel), while further back, Red Ransom and Bluebird are both internationally-acclaimed stallions.

The colt carries a cross of breed shaping stallion Danehill (Danzig) on the dam line of Circus Maximus and sire line of Star Of Bombay.
